Three Questions About the Eagles as Trai…
A season after winning the Super Bowl the Eagles fought their way to a 9-7 record and a wild card playoff win in Chicago before eventually too many mistakes cost them in the divisional round in New Orleans.
After the 9-7 campaign, the team will have a bit of a new look as no more will have they have backup quarterback Nick Foles to fall back on, as he’s not in Jacksonville.
With camp a few days out, today we take a look at three questions about the team as they look to get back to the postseason for another Super Bowl run.
1. It’s all on Wentz
When the Eagles drafted Carson Wentz in the first round a few years back, he was expected to be the long term answer at the quarterback spot.
Instead season-ending injuries the last two seasons have forced the team to go to backup Nick Foles, who won them a Super Bowl and nearly got the team to the NFC Title Game last year.
With Foles in Jacksonville, the biggest question for this team concerns the health of Wentz, and can he be the long term answer.
Last season he was 5-6 as the team’s starter before falling to injury. He’s got to stay healthy or this team is in huge trouble.
2. Can the D-Line Develop?
Everyone knows that both Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett can ball, but after that there’s a number of questions about who will rush the QB and stop the run game.
Camp is a time for young players to not only get a chance but to develop, and this season you need to look for the following names = Josh Sweat, Vinny Curry and former third-round pick Daeshon Hall.
The other two players who might see some time and push for it include Shareef Miller is a rookie and Joe Ostman
It’s a wide open competition that should be one of the most heated in camp.
3. The Run Game
You’ve got a number of running backs who last season showed promise, but in the end no one truly stepped up and took charge of the position.
The one player who may be able to to change all that is Jordan Howard, who came over in a deal from the Chicago Bears.
Howard ran for 935 yards and nine touchdowns last season, more than any Eagles running back by far.
He will for sure be the opening day starter barring injury, and the team is hopeful that he will bring a big punch to the run game in 2019.
